When someone frames your mental health issues as attention seeking behavior, problem behavior, or any other negatively-coded context, it creates an environment that makes you feel guilty, wrong, and selfish for struggling with things outside of your control. As a result, serious issues are allowed to arise in the absence of support.
Attention seeking does not need to be qualified as “support seeking” to be valid and acceptable.
You are a human creature. We are social animals who thrive in communities where each of us are cared for.
It is your absolute right to desire attention, and to go about seeking that attention in the healthiest way you can.
You deserve attention, even when you haven’t done anything seemingly “worth” it. Who gave anyone the right to say that a person doesn’t deserve attention?
